My TV keeps shutting off on me. Its over 9 years old and its the first problem I have had. Is it cheap to fix?
ByMy television keeps shutting off on its own after being on for about five minutes. I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to turn on again. Then I turn something like the vcr or dvd on play and it shuts off again. Is it something I can get fixed cheaply or should I just get a new TV. It’s a Zenith brand TV and all the Zenith TV’s we have had in the past never gave us any problems.

Unfortunately it will only make a good boat anchor. Most TV repair places won’t work on sets more than 5 years old because its cheaper to buy a new one.

Not much to go on here , best guess is a dry joint in power supply or line amp stages. Get a TV tech in to have a butchers and give you estimate , he will be able to tell if dry joints are likely when he / she examines the set. Cheers Pete
PS Yes it should be cheap to fix !!

Zenith is a brand that uses modules and the modules are in the area of $100 -$200 plus labor to diagnose which module to change, replacement and alignment can run $100- $150 dependent upon the screen size. I think you get the picture, you’ve got your monies worth out of this TV. You may find a shop that does free estimates and may times the shop has many good used ones to trade you into for the same amount you would spend on this one.

Wendy, when I ws a kid we had a tv that did tht, my dad used to do some repairs and this one he said, time to get a new TV and so he did. It is time to get a new and nicer TV, you will be happy that you did. I was thinking about getting our old Toshiba fixed to keep out side or in the garage for when we are out and want to keep our eye on a football game, but after i call around and see if can get a diagnosis, I will see if it is worth it, you should too, I bet yours might not be worth it, like mine.
