THE FACT THAT NO ONE CAN REALLY LEARN HOW TO PLAY A REAL PIANO WITHOUT HAVING A REAL PIANO TO LEARN AND PRACTICE UPON?

The best and costliest digital piano still does not replicate real touch, or depth of tone, and most especially, will not allow for any coloration of the tone by the player.

So is this digital piano wave just something accepted because they are cheaper than a real piano, that is, a matter of an uninformed public Assuming the virtual substitution is satisfactory, or have these machines been marketed as a completely satisfactory substitution?

Every time I see some youngster saying they’ve saved up and want an X,Y,Z keyboard and want to learn to play the piano, I weep at the ill-advised expense, and the fact they are most likely to become musical typists vs. ever becoming an actual musical player.

(I know every good reason for a digital piano, midi, desktop composition / recording software, editors, and keenly “Pro” those uses. but apart from a real piano for Playing the Piano.)

I have yet to find any disagreement with every real pianist I’ve discussed this with: each being pretty appalled that the generation learning on electric keyboards, high end or low, are at a horrible disadvantage and they will eventually have to take a lot of time out, if they go further, to learn how to play the real instrument.

Thoughts, opinions? I need warn respondents I’m pretty inured to arguments of economy or claimed poverty from those in the ‘western civ.’ English-speaking nations, at least. There, ‘poor’ families frequently have cable T.V. large-screen televisions to watch that on, and additionally consume and pay for the unnecessary – even ‘the assisted’ poor.’ I have known too many ‘poor’ families and individuals who’ve managed to rearrange things on a tight budget in order to provide and have music lessons. Ergo ‘poor’ is relative.
Oh, Del, I just didn’t want to say it but you have. The ambitions of which Chopin piece should I play next, pretty much guaranteed they can barely read their way through it, aren’t working with a teacher, think ‘they have it down’ and my thinking ‘no musician of any integrity would want to hear it the way it will come out.’ Apart from these keyboards very real utility factors, you are saying a lot are sold as those dispensable fad toys, in vogue or on whim of a moment, and only one half a year, maybe then gathering dust or doubling as a bookshelf or doorstop
