What is the best digital camera/camcorder combo for around $300?

By

I am looking for a camera/camcorder combo to buy my wife for Christmas. I want the best of both worlds, but she would most likely use it more to take still pics.

I once used a friend’s Kodak camera, which had camcorder options and we really liked that a lot. The only problem with that was the camcorder only recorded for a short time.

So now, I am looking for the best for the money. Suggestions? Links are appreciated.

My wife and I looked at camcorders that were in our price range with the options we needed, very confusing with so many options and features for current camcorders, so after many hours of research on camcorders, I narrowed our needs to a Sony DCR-SR47 with a 60 GB HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and a 60X Optical Zoom and optional memory stick, with a price we could live with. The Sony DCR-SR47 is small in hand and could easily fit in a large pocket, purchased from Amazon.com standard shipping, shipping was on the slow side, after reading the manual a few times, not to difficult to set up, and start taking movies and pictures right out of the box. Setup with the DMP program for our computer was very quick. This Sony camcorder is a very good value. for a camcorder with all the features that will not strain you wallet.

i think you should go for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1
I have read it features on one of the blog
http://digitalcamerascompare.wordpress.com/2009/12/07/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-wx1/

Its a real good camera with
10.2MP EXMOR R” CMOS sensor
5x optical zoom
24mm wide angle
BIONZ processor for recording
Movie mode capable of 720p HD-quality video with use of the optical zoom
Sweeping Panorama option lets you shoot horizontal or vertical panoramas

You can buy from amazon they are really cheaper here:

Really no need for an extra camcorder for recording it does the work for both best quality stills and recording. A very good buy in this budget

If you think that she is going to take more stills than video then go for a stills camera, cyber shot or something like that.

At this moment in time there is nothing even at three times your budget that will do both jobs, at least not in high quality. It needs to be more of a balance, taking more stills then get a good stills camera, and something that will take reasonable video, or the other way round.

I suggest you have alook to see whats available in a store, online is fine but its 100% better to get your hands on one. Ignore anything the sales people say about mega pixles in reference to video, its just confusing, like chalk and cheese. Avoid digital zooms, only go for optical.

At the moment there are many bargains around, many places will let you haggle, just go for it you have nothing to loose.

Good luck

RR
